The Westbury Village Project

Content & Videos
Here are three whiteboard videos on topics in the discussion on topics early on in our discussion to form a village. It is impossible to tell a story (either side or all sides!) in 3-5 minutes so consider them a (hopefully) entertaining helping of general facts.
Our story and the issues we faced on the way to becoming a village.
-
A short history of Westbury and how we got here.
-
An outline of where 10 VSA 6242 left off and the unique place Westbury is in - no longer a private business where the residents are "customers" but not yet a public neighborhood.
-
A simplistic answer to the question: Why form a village? As we are learning, sometimes simple topics have complex parts. Perhaps if we are successful in forming a village and the Vermont Legislature approves a charter proposal, we will look back and see we created a path that Vermonters before us actually left for us to find.
Please Note: In August of 2022, four days after the article on Westbury came out in Seven Days, The Town of Colchester Selectboard stated "In (their) opinion, it is not in the best interest of the Town as a whole, or the residents of (the Co-op), who are also residents of the Town to create a new municipal entity at Westbury." Additionally they stated, " The Town of Colchester is not interested in providing services under contract to a village at Westbury or any other village in the Town of Colchester."
We disagreed with the assumptions made in the letter sent to members of the community and have compiled an extensive catalogue of resident feedback. If the Town left you out of their mailing, you can read it HERE. Video 3 remains on our site as part of this discussion. Please view it with the knowledge of the Selectboard's opinion.
